Senior “Tom” Citizen vs. New “Pat” Swing by Klassy K

Senior “Tom” Citizen vs. New “Pat” Swing by Klassy K

Home Skillets! It is about that time for us to say that Super Bowl LV will be on Sunday. I know you probably thought I would start rapping the lyrics of “Jam Master Jay” song by Run DMC, but I cannot do so due to copyright infringement. The Super Bowl showdown between the senior citizen quarterback vs. 90’s New Jack Swing quarterback is about to battle for the Super Bowl Championship, which is this Sunday, February 7, 2021, aired on CBS.

So, let me tell y’all a little about Tom Brady, a college quarterback for the University of Michigan, drafted by the New England Patriots in the 6th round in 2000 and won 6 Super Bowl rings. It makes me wonder why the Detroit Lions owners passed over him in the draft back in 2000. Just think he could have been a Detroit Lions. What makes it also bad, some of the other teams passed him up as well. I bet you those teams probably regret it too. Now Brady was under scrutiny in the past for being a Trump Supporter. People did not like him for that, just like they do not like Colin Kaepernick. The only difference is, well, you already know.

Tom Brady is now a Tampa Bay Buccaneer, living in the sunshine state with his beautiful wife and kids. Of course, he is rich, living the American dream, and even though he is the oldest quarterback in history to be in his 7th Super Bowl, Brady, as you can see, still got that A-game. As you already know, Brady left the New England Patriots last year when he was a free agent. Of course, the New England Patriots wanted him to stay, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wanted him so bad that they paid him 50 million dollars for a 2-year contract. Oh, and a $50 million signing bonus. Like I said, the American dream. Now the 43-year-old Buccaneer Tom Brady and 25-year-old Pat Mahomes II Chief, old vs. new, senior citizen vs. New Jack or Pat, will be getting their quarterbacking on in Tampa Bay, FL.

Now Pat Mahomes II may be young but is not new to being a champion. As many of you know, he will be defending his championship title this Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers, 20-31 at last year’s Super Bowl LIV. You would think he would be the youngest ever quarterback to win a Super Bowl Championship, right? But he is not. Now maybe the first black or bi-racial quarterback, but not the first. Pat Mahomes II played college football and college baseball for Texas Tech and then later quit in his junior year to enter the NFL, and guess what? He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2017. I hope he retires in Kansas City as a Chief and be true to da game, unlike Matt Stafford that recently left the Detroit Lions franchise to go to Los Angeles Rams.

The Ford owners paid that chump $100 million, and the Lions never made it to the Super Bowl, oh well. In exchange for the trade, Detroit Lions got two future three draft picks, including a 2021 and 3rd round picks. Really? Like I stated in my previous sports blog, I knew Matt was going to leave, and the franchise should have drafted Tua Tagovailoa in last year’s draft, but again oh well. The Detroit Lions franchise has a new manager and head coach; I just hope they use these 2021 and future draft picks wisely because the Detroit Lions would forever be the Loser Lions.

Please continue to stay safe, home skillets. This Coronavirus will not be going away anytime soon. I know sports entertainment is trying to enforce mask and social distancing restrictions, but I do not see how sports would apply? Football, hockey, wrestling, basketball, etc., players play in close contact with one another, not wearing masks or social distancing for that matter. And did you know that the All-star game is set for next month on March 7th? I hope the players’ uniforms have disposable hand sanitizer wipes on them. LOL.

You’re FIRED by Klassy K

You’re FIRED! by Klassy K

Home Skillets! What is up? I hope everyone had a safe and pleasant holiday. Last year, we weren’t even thinking about that statement as far as being “safe.” Now, we have to mean it literally. The entire Thanksgiving and probably the rest of the holidays would likely consist of that along with limited family members, checking temperatures at the door, wearing a facemask, gloves, hazmat suits, using hand sanitizers, people eating outside or in the garage. Hey, it may sound crazy, but who knew this would be part of the norm.

Thanksgiving would not be Thanksgiving without watching football; yeah, we eat, maybe drink, but watching football is like the icing on the cake. Getting the family together, well now, you’ll have to be in different rooms while wearing a mask while watching the game. If that is not somewhat uncomfortable, what’s worse is when your team loses. You already know where I am going; the Lions got STOMPED, 25-41. They lost against the Houston Texans, a team that has lost as many games as the Lions

Do you know what I think home skillets? When football teams know that they are playing against the Lions, they probably tell themselves, “it’s like practice,” so let’s go in and have some fun while getting paid at the same time. I’m just saying! So far, the Lions has only won four games this season with a .364 percentile. That’s below the mark to even be a contender in the playoffs.

I know you are like me; the Lions SUCK, and why isn’t the Ford family doing ANYTHING about it! I mean, don’t they get tired of the excuses from both coach and players?! I saw a meme the other day. It had a picture of Matt Patricia, and the caption said, “If a coach was 2020.” Home skillets, OMG! I couldn’t believe it, but where is the lie, though? I mean, Matt Patricia was a defensive coordinator for New England Patriots, but what people don’t understand is that they had Tom Brady, a superstar quarterback from the University of Michigan. We got dreary old 30 something, $100 million overpriced, injured prone, and ungrateful wife Kelly who made a video ranting about our Governor Whitmer’s partial shutdown. Make all the excuses in the world; you guessed it, our quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Why didn’t the owners pick a young, hungry quarterback in the NFL draft? One would never know why? Matthew will probably retire in a few years, and guess what? The owners will have to rush to hire a limited experience been around and never won a championship quarterback. In other words, back to square one.

After three years of being the head coach for the Detroit Lions, Matt Patricia was finally FIRED! “Hit the road Matt and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more, hit the road Matt and don’t ya come back no more, whatcha say!” So, take your overweight, middle-aged, pencil loving wearing, bear looking beard outta here! He tried, and the owners were fed up, but that’s what you get when you hired general manager Bob Quinn, and he brought in his own coach.

Hey, they fired Jim Caldwell with little notice, and at least he improved the Lions record. If memory serves me correctly, the Lions made it to the playoffs. Now it’s scramble time to hire both a new general manager and a coach. Well, I hope the owners take their time this time because guess what? The Lions will always be the team that never won an NFL championship.

Lastly, I would like to dedicate this article to Mrs. Dawson, the owner of A Heart Full of Conversations LLC. She recently lost her grandmother. Send your prayers home skillets, cause we all could use some love.

A Change Gonna Come by Klassy K

A Change Gonna Come by Klassy K

Home Skilllets! I hope all of you are well and staying home, staying safe. Prayers go out to all who have lost a loved one to the coronavirus, natural causes, or illness; rather, it was a friend, family member, or stranger. Just know that we will get through this together at some point. For those that have the virus or know someone that has the virus, stay prayed up, take supplements (vitamins) and seek hospital care. The pandemic has affected everyone’s lifestyle, including work, clubbing, going to the park or movies, vacation plans, concerts, sporting events, going out with friends/family, and or just going over a family member’s house to have Sunday dinner. Basically, the simple things in life we once looked forward to, and now it’s all put on hold until further notice.

We are trying to do all we can to stay active, sane, and healthy. Some of us have resulted in streaming, going to the store to buy essential items, zooming, or face timing with our friends/family members. Maybe even some of us are doing social media challenges or trying to do some exercise in our home, helping kids with assignments and coming up with other things to try to normalize our lives as we once knew it. This virus just “creeped” upon us like TLC and straight jacking up our lives like Ice Cube. It’s been boring. Hey, dull sounds good right about now, especially with everything that’s been going on with people dying, sick, or out of work. Please remember Home Skillets, this to shall pass.  We all must do our part in stopping the spread of the virus. I’m with Governor Whitmer.

It’s only so much social media, challenges, streaming, and going to the refrigerator that we can take. I need some stimulating entertainment! Not “the over” 18 activity, but I actually miss seeing the Detroit Pistons lose.  I missed the Detroit Tigers game day opener and even watching the Detroit Red Wings run up and down on a cold ice skating rink wishing someone could bring them a cold pop like Sweet Brown. All jokes aside, though, I miss watching sports, and I am a female, so you know I’m bored. If it’s not the Superbowl, the draft, All-star games, championship games, and maybe a competitive game that I might want to see, not interested. The men are more so sport fanatics then females, in my opinion. I guess that’s why men athletics get more attention than women athletics. It’s all about money, and which one generates the most money.  Like C&C Factory, things that make you go hmmmmm.

Well, I don’t know if you heard the NBA and MLB are thinking of having empty seat games. Basically, it’s going to be a bunch of rich men playing like its practice, but it’ll be against an opponent. Due to social distancing, the games will be televised. Ironically, some countries are already doing this.  It won’t be any time soon here though; many speculate in June. The WNBA draft was last week, which you probably did not know about, but I bet you know about the NFL draft? You know why? Right! Well, read the last two sentences in the third paragraph. The NFL draft starts tomorrow, April 23rd through the 25th. It’ll be a virtual draft. The Commissioner, Roger Goodell, will be announcing the draft picks from his house. This year the Detroit Lions have nine picks which one of them is the 3rd overall draft pick. Sport media outlets are thinking that the Detroit Lions will either pick an offensive tackle, defensive end, or quarterback. Yes, you read correctly, a quarterback!

Yes, we already have a quarterback, Matthew Stafford, but I’m speculating that he is going to want to be traded or retire. He had two back surgeries, been in the league for over 10 years, his wife had brain surgery, has two small children and he is over 30. Time for some new blood. I am hoping that the Detroit Lions franchise makes the right choice and pick Tua Tagovailoa, a junior quarterback from the University of Alabama. He is young, talented, and fine! Oh yeah, he can play too! Google for footage/stats. If they pick him, I will gladly spend $200 for nosebleed seats, ha! Who am I kidding? I’m frugal, and I’m social distancing. LOL.

On the last note, I would like to dedicate this blog to my friend and co-worker Latonja Degraffenreid-Smith and her husband Ricardo Smith. She recently lost her father in law and his father Rev. Richard Smith due to the coronavirus.  I would also like to dedicate this to the front line workers that risk their lives every day to save others. All we can do is pray Home Skillets, for continuous strength, because the pain never ends. God bless.

Something’s Got to Give by Butch Ford

The Detroit Lions are about to complete yet another disappointing season with a losing record.  This has become the norm around these parts and the fans are outraged.  In fact, some are even calling for the sale of the team by The Fords (no relation).  Unfortunately, ineptitude has become the yearly expectation for the franchise by football purists.

General Manager Bob Quinn, the former Director of Scouting in The New England Patriots’ organization was hired by The Ford family in 2016 to right the ship.  While making several good personnel decisions since his arrival…the one blemish and questionable move was the firing of fan favorite and former Head Coach Jim Caldwell in 2018.  Caldwell boasted a 36-28 record and a .536 winning percentage in his 4 seasons in Detroit…making him the winningest coach in the franchise’s history.

He was let go in favor of another former New England Patriots’ stalwart Matt Patricia, a friend of Quinn’s with no head coaching experience at any level on his resume.  With two games remaining on the schedule, Patricia is about to complete his second full season as the Lions’ Head Coach.  He only has 8 wins to show, so far out of 30 total games during his tenure.  Clinching another losing record, some believe that he has lost his players, as well as respect in the locker room.

Maybe it’s time we demand answers.  For generations, it’s been speculated that football is merely a hobby for The Fords and winning just isn’t a priority.  There have been countless personnel changes in management, a revolving door for players year after year and directionless leadership on the field.  The only constant IS the ownership.  So, what should the next move be?

Is Patricia on the “hot seat”?  Is Quinn’s job in jeopardy after firing a Superbowl Champion Head Coach in favor of an inexperienced former colleague?  Did the Fords drop the ball in their selection of Quinn?  Should the team be put up for sale?  What should the long-suffering fans do?  Should action be taken or recourse?  So many difficult questions and so much uncertainty.  Something’s got to give.  Detroiters simply deserve better.

That’s Rose, Derrick Rose by Klassy K

That’s Rose, Derrick Rose by Klassy K

What’s up home skillets? Did ya miss me?! I know it has been a LONG time, don’t beat me down! There has been a lot going on, nothing much, it’s called life. Summer is long over, the fall leaves has dropped, now we got this slushy white mess that is going on which will probably be here until April. Well, Prince did say that sometimes it snows in April and you know sometimes it snows in April especially in Michigan.

Now that the Detroit Little League Tigers season has miserably ended, Detroit Buffalo Wings ended also. Now, we are in football and basketball season.  I wanted to wait as long as possible before clowning the Detroit “Kitty Kat” Lions, because the season started off well! I’ m not going to lie.  I was pretty excited at first, because I was trying to keep hope alive.  You know cause the Lions struggled along the years, different coaches, players and uniforms, man they have been threw a lot. I know you can hear the sarcasm. Ok, so the Lions won their home game, and then they tied the next game.  Boy oh boy, Detroit went crazy! People were having tailgate parties.  Men and women of all colors were hugging and kissing.  Well, maybe all wasn’t kissing, but you could feel the love in the air. However, the Lions went from 2-1-1, to 3-9-1, ouch!

I saw a meme the other day on Facebook, and it was right after the Lions lost. It was a boy with his head down on a desk crying, and there was a man standing over him with his hand on his back.  The caption read, “The boy was being beaten by his mom and dad, and the boy pleaded that he wanted to stay with his aunt and uncle. So, he was granted that, but then they also beat him as well.  So, the man that had his hand on the boy’s back, said “Well, see if the Lions can take you in, because they can’t beat nobody”. I was dying laughing! OMG!  Well, you can always show your support by either watching the game on Fox or attending the game when they play the Buccaneers on December 15 @ 1:00 pm. I’m still taking the knee Kapp!

Now, everyone knows that Derrick Rose is a Detroit Piston.  You know Mr. Rose, he has been with so many, one cannot keep count! The Detroit Pitifuls, I mean the Pistons are currently in 9th place in the Eastern conference with a record of 10-14. That’s not bad! Yes, it is, why I’m playing.  Blake Griffin is out due to injury.  So, we have Rose, Derrick Rose to fill in for Blake. Mr. Rose can hold up his own.

The Pistons played yesterday, December 9, against the New Orleans Pelicans. Just in case you are not a college basketball fan, this is the team that the number 1 draft pick Mr. Zion Williamson is part of the roster, but guess what he didn’t play. All that money that he received and he’s not even playing. LOL. The Pistons beat the Pelicans 105-103. It was a very close game, but it was 3 seconds left of the game and tied. Guess who hit the winning shot? Mr. Rose! After the game, off course the announcers interviewed him, just asking some questions pertaining to the game, the team, etc. But, this is how I know that Mr. Rose is going to be a key player in getting us into the playoffs. I know that’s a while from now, but hey a sister can wish.  Anyway, the sports announcer asked Derrick, “So, tell me what you were thinking when you made the winning shot?” Derrick replied, “Excuse my broken English, but dis is what I do!” Home skillets, I almost jumped out of my bed and ran outside my house, cause this man said this on NATIONAL television.

Check out your home boy, cause he and the other Pistons will be playing this Thursday, December 12 @ 9:00 pm against the Mavericks.
